INTERNATIONAL ACCLAIM FOR WOJTEK
Aug-04-2012 - BRONZE AWARD AT INTERNATIONAL BEER CHALLENGE
We are extremely pleased to announce that at the recent International Beer Challenge held in London we were awarded a Bronze medal for Wojtek the latest addition to our bottled beer family.
Having consistantly won many national and regional awards for several of our other beers over the years it is a real credit to all the brewery team to achieve our first success at International level.
For 16 years the International Beer Challenge has rewarded and promoted excellent beers.
The whole rainbow of beer complexity entered the IBC this year, with entries received from no fewer than 26 countries, including acknowledged brewing heartlands and representations from advancing beer countries.
Judges include some of the shrewdest beer judges in the land – retailers, importers, publicans, brewers, writers and flavour analysts. Add in some highly experienced judges from continental Europe to make sure we have an even better spread of tasting experience.
Judges study each beer in turn, considering the appearance, the aroma, the taste and the finish, before discussing their findings with other table members and reaching a consensus on which medal to award. The level of knowledge and experience of the judges is striking and, for a beer to achieve any kind of medal from such exacting critics is a real achievement.
The deep golden 5.5% beer is named after the Syrian bear adopted by Polish troops in World War 2 and who served alongside the soldiers at the battle of Monte Cassino. (See our mini site).
A blend of 4 types of malt and a medley of old and new world hops provide an aroma of hop resin and a very distinctive dry finish of citrus fruit and juniper.
